The White Deer

Every once in a while, nature sends an emissary to remind us that love exists.
She travels from house to house with a silent peaceful gaze.
She will play with our dogs, she communes with donkeys and cows from our neighbors dairy farm.
On cold winter nights she will nestle under evergreen trees away from cold winds.
Her silent vigil may begin at our bedroom window or by our patio doors.

Never too close yet never far,
her presence is like a small gift.
She loves bread and will eat fresh fruit or other tasty tidbits.
As she quietly eats her gifts she looks up as if to say thanks.

So many tragedies could have befallen our gentle emissary.
Unthinkable tragedies by dull minds or accidents of hurry.

Yet her solitary visits continue, bringing a bright shine to our day with each appearance.

Others love her as much as we, yet none have coveted the love of others.

She remains free to continue her gentle reminders,
that love endures in nature.
and can be shared by our neighbors.
