Judo

 

 

An introduction to the fundamentals of judo.

 

 

 

 

 

Begining Judo
Youth Ages 9 TO 12- Monday
3:30 to 4 PM

Children Ages 5 TO 8 - Wednesday
3:30 TO 4:00 PM

Teens 13 to 16 - Friday .
3:30 to 4 PM

Beggining Judo is an 8 week course that covers the fundamentals of judo falling, throwing and hold down techniques. Children will get physical exercise through the very interesting sport of Judo. Children will gain self confidence as they learn ways to physically and mentally handle bulling situations in a safe and effective manner. Students scoring high on the final exam will receive yellow belts.

Intermediate Judo
Pre-requisite-Yellow belt or higher

Youth Ages 9 TO 12- Monday
4:05 to 4:35 PM

Children Ages 5 TO 8 - Wednesday
4:05 to 4:35 PM

Teens 13 to 16 - Friday .
4:05 to 4:35 PM

Graduates from the beginning programs who earn yellow belts are eligible to continue in Judo Intermediate Classes with training that include free style practice called randori and learning additional judo techniques.

 

Competitive Judo

Monday, Wendesday, Friday
4:40 to 5:30 PM

These sessions are designed for individuals who have leanred a sufficient amount of Judo that they are ready to begin competitive training. Judo Competitions are by age and weight allowing children to compete against similarly developed opponents. Competition rules are taught as well as strategies for linking judo techniques to work effectively against other highly trained opponents. Physical training as well technical skills are emphasized. Students are admitted into Competive Judo by permission of instructor.

 

Advanced - Judo Kata Training


Each kata course varies in the number of meetings per course based on the length and complexity of the specific kata being studied. The dates for Katas will be published as they are scheduled. Each kata class will have 45 minutes of instruction with demonstration and opportunity to learn the moves under close supervision and guidance. . This is followed by an open mat for individuals to improve execution and coordination through repetition and exploration.

Fees, dates and course length will be announced.

There are seven Judo Katas each emphasising a different aspect of the Judo Discipline.

The word Kata is Japanesse for prearranged demonstration.
Randori No Katas - consisting of:
Nage No Kata ( Throwing forms)
Katame No Kata ( Grappling forms)

Fighting Katas
Kimineo Kata ( Ancient forms of self defense)
Goshin Jitsu No Kata ( Modern forms of self defense)

Heritage Kata - Showing the historical link between modern judo and earlier forms of Jujitsu from which judo evolved.
Koshiki-no-kata ( A jujitsu kata that judo embraces)

Theoretical Katas that display fundamental foundations of judo technique.

Un-no-kata ( Forms of Gentleness)
Itsusu-no-kata ( 5 fundamental forms)
